In my first small garden this summer the purple basil I planted has grown wild and it smells amazing. The tomatoes are also booming this season so I decided on a simple, yet delicious garden fresh Margherita Pizza to use up a bit of my beautiful, home grown produce. Below is a very simple recipe, because sometimes you just need an easy peasy pizza night.
Pizza Margherita
Ingredients:
pizza dough (I use Amy’s fresh made pizza dough, but you can find it at the grocery as well)
1 large fresh mozzarella ball, torn or sliced
2-4 tablespoons Trader Joe’s Pizza Sauce (I like it saucy)
1 – 2 garden fresh tomatoes, sliced
2 cups loosely packed garden fresh purple basil
Method:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Roll out dough and transfer to a pizza pan. Flash bake dough 5 to 1o minutes. Remove dough from oven and evenly spread around the pizza sauce. Layer the mozzarella and tomatoes. Bake pizza about 20 to 25 minutes until the dough is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling. Allow pizza to rest about 5 minutes and then evenly place the basil around the pizza. Enjoy!
